London to Brighton Veteran Race

The London to Brighton Veteran Race is the longest-running motoring event in the world. The first race was in 1896, and it has taken place most years since its initial revival in 1927. To qualify, the cars must have been built before 1905. It currently takes place on the first Sunday in November…

This year in 2021, the milestone staging takes place on 7 November and commemorates the 125th anniversary of the famous Emancipation Run of November 1896.

The run has taken place most years since its initial revival in 1927. It starts at sunrise in Hyde Park, London, and mostly following the old A23 road to the finish at Brighton – a distance of 54 miles (87 km). There are two official stops along the way: Crawley (for coffee) and Preston Park (in a suburb of Brighton). Preston Park is the official finishing point; the cars then proceed to Madeira Drive on the seafront . They start to arrive there from about 10:00 and then throughout the day till the check-in closing time of 16:30.

On the day the Veteran cars are allowed to use Brighton’s bus lanes.

This is a very popular event which I thoroughly recommend.
